Dogs Unite in Coniston this September for Guide Dogs

What could be better than getting together with a group of like minded dog owners and their furry pals and heading out for a walk on a Saturday? This is just what will be taking place in Coniston, the Lake District this Saturday September 19th. The event is one of the Dogs Unite for Guide Dogs walks and family fun days which are happening throughout September and throughout the UK.

Guide Dogs is such a special charity and one where supporters needn’t even be dog owners or lovers, everyone knows how important and life saving guide dogs are for those who are blind or visually impaired. The Unite Dog day in Coniston is free to join in and attend and is made up of a 3km sponsored dog walk, an arena with guide dog demonstrations, a sensory tunnel, fun dog show, stalls and much more and all taking place in and within the grounds of the John Ruskin School in the centre of Coniston village.

STOP PRESS! New luxury dog friendly accommodation to open in Windermere

Mac and Cam are excited about a new dog friendly place to stay that is currently being built right in the centre of Windermere by the Applegarth Villa Hotel on College Road.

For a couple of spoilt Border Collies, it is a great prospect being a hotel and luxury where it sounds like dogs will be waited on hand and paw. Alan & Suzanne Mumford are dog owners to an extremely handsome, and of course pampered, Retriever Freddie. Freddie goes everywhere with Alan & Suzanne so the new build of 7 luxury suites, next door to the hotel, naturally had to have a couple suitable for pooch travellers.

The two dog friendly suites will have their own entrance, perfect for transporting paws in and out. Walkies, right from the suites door, Windermere, Parks and Orrest Head and just a short car or leisurely walk down to the lake. Food, obviously number 1 for any pooch tourist and this has already been taken into consideration (as personally instructed by Freddie, the new suites ambassador). Dog friendly guests can order food, treats and toys from Roy, Freddie’s best friend who owns the pet store in the village. Roy will deliver the consignment to the hotel ensuring that as well as the humans enjoying delicious food on the holidays, so will the four legged members of the party.  Alan & Suzanne have thought of everything including the ability to dine in the room so everybody/doggy can eat together.

The suites are available from December 1st but can be booked now. Some lucky pooch has already booked in for New Year! Book online via http://www.lakesapplegarth.co.uk/ or speak to Alan & Suzanne on 015394 43206 for further dog friendly information.
