If you’re looking for a true dog friendly hotel in the Lake District then we’ve found a real gem, The Newby Bridge Hotel at the southern tip of Lake Windermere, even the receptionist is a canine (Scruffy – he’ll be checking you in!)!
We all know the Lake District is one of the most dog friendly regions of the UK but finding somewhere that really is dog friendly and in the right area isn’t always as simple. Newby Bridge Hotel is set within large grounds, great for dogs to get some exercise after a long journey. Next, most rooms not just a handful are dog friendly but they kindly try and allocate dogs and their owners with rooms nearer the gardens. Dogs are welcome in the bar and it’s a lovely bar with views and tasty food. A really handy thing for breakfast times, tables can be set up in the bar so dogs can join.
Then the area, far quieter than Windermere and Ambleside yet with direct access to the Lakeside pier for trips up and down Lake Windermere, 2 and 4 legs welcome. Next the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway where dogs are allowed on the steam trains. But when it comes to walks then its dog friendly heaven. One of our favourite when visiting that area is the walk from Newby Bridge to High Dam. High Dam sits above on the western edge of Lake Windermere. The walk can be done straight from the Newby Bridge Hotel with only a short distance on the road before heading into woodland, across farmland and up to High Dam. The body of water is like an oasis and is a place you’ll almost always get to yourselves. From the hotel the route there and back amounts to around 5 miles. Other walks in the area include nearby Gummers How for one of the best vantage points for viewing Lake Windermere and the surrounding fells.
At £10 per dog per night the cost is less than a kennel but even more importantly dogs don’t miss out on the fun either. Book direct and receive a £10 voucher for spending in the hotel and bar during the stay. Visit http://www.newbybridgehotel.co.uk/dog-friendly-lake-district-hotel for more details.
