Dog and family friendly Lake District shows this August

We’re now firmly into show season in Cumbria and the Lake District right now. Great news is none have had to be cancelled due to the weather in fact each show so far has been blessed with a fair day. Let us all hope that continues!

But looking ahead and an ultra busy, mid summer weekend of August 15th and 16th, what we like to call, double show day. If you’re staying or looking to have a holiday or short break around these dates, these two shows are a must and especially if you’ve got a four legged friend.

Firstly on Saturday August 15 and Sunday 16 is the Lowther Show. What a location set in within the Lowther Estate and Castle the show and being a full weekend events confirms this as one of the biggest events in the Cumbrian show calendar. So much to see and do for adults, children and dogs. Under 16’s go free and look out for the leaflets that entitle adults to £2 off. Tickets ccan be purchased online or on the day.

Lots to see and do for two and four legged visitors

Next onto a lovely little show, the Lakeland Country Fair at Torver near Coniston on Sunday 16th August. A completely different part of the county, the true heart of the Lake District, smaller yet by no means less enjoyable. Surrounding the show field are the Coniston Fells including Coniston Old Man and they provide simply stunning scenery. This show is a traditional Lakeland show in its purist form with Lakeland sports and activities, lurcher, terrier, beagle and foxhound shows and races as well as traditional skills such as basket weaving and leatherwork and not to forget Herdwick and Swaledale sheep naturally. Just £5 gains entrance to the show and that including free parking.

With both of these events, you’re sure to be entertained the whole day, sure to be well fed and watered and no doubt sure to come home with plenty of yummy goodies, and most definitely have very tired children and dogs!
These shows are the perfect way to spend a day that gets all the family together and involved including the dogs and Cumbria and the Lake District is so dog friendly.
